Today we did problem solving stations. For homework, you were asked to finish the worksheets that you did not complete in the stations. The worksheets are below.
Today, we graded the problem solving assignment from your book. My plan was to have you get in two groups and do two different problem solving activities but we didn't quite have the time for that so I just gave you one to work on. Tomorrow, you will have problem solving stations where rotations will occur! Below is the assignment I gave you in class (in case you lost it). This is due tomorrow. Be sure you show ALL of your mathematical thinking while doing it. Also be sure you are reading carefully and addressing everything that is asked for. We are going to be doing a lot of problem solving over the next week or so. Tonight, you guys were assigned 11-9 (pg374-375:1-20all). This will be due on Monday and there will be a homework quiz. Then we will work on different application problems in small groups. The test for chapter 11 will be on Wednesday, December 11th.
We finished the plickers quiz today. Tomorrow, we will start on problem solving strategies. We will also come up with a test day for chapter 11. It will be after Thanksgiving.
Tomorrow you guys will be taking the quiz over lessons 4, 5, and 6. Below, I have posted what I shared with you in class of what would be on the quiz. It will be a plickers quiz and for the Time Zone portion, you will have a map with the given time zones.
You guys seemed to get the computing with customary units really quickly today! Remember, when you are computing and "borrowing" for subtraction, you have to use the correct conversions (ex 1lb = 16 oz, 24 hours = 1 day). Remember that when you are adding, your smaller unit cannot have more than the conversion units for the larger unit. See below for an example. You guys were assigned pg 370-371:1-27odd, 30-33all
If you have ever taken a trip to somewhere in a different time zone, you that times change depending on where you are at. We did some practice and you guys seemed to get the concept of time changes pretty easily. There was homework assigned and it will be due tomorrow with a homework quiz. The homework is page 368-369:1-23all
Due to the half day yesterday, we were not able to have math class but we still did our warm-up!
I want to remind you guys to keep up with Accelerated Math! If you don't keep up with it, your math grade will be negatively affected. Although you can't take tests at home, you can work on practices at home. I will add the link to the links on the right-hand side of this page. Please take responsibility and do your work! You guys finished your pop quiz today. I did have 3 100%!!!!! That's amazing! Some of you still have some things you need to review... like how many ounces are in a pound and your GallonBot. You guys didn't have any problem remembering when to multiply or divide so that's amazing... that's harder to teach than just remember the conversions. We don't get to have math tomorrow due to the half-day.
So I told you guys to check my website last night so you would know about the pop quiz... needless to say Mrs. Spaunhorst is starting to lose her mind because I sure didn't put it up there. Luckily, it was scheduled to be a pop quiz anyway... luckily part 2, Pickers wasn't working properly today so we didn't get through much. I will do my best to get it all in tomorrow!
